The Predawn Runner Challenge
Introducing the Predawn Runner Challenge, wherein the goal is to demonstrate your commitment to getting out the door early by being the first one to complete your run for the day. There will (initially) be two rounds of this challenge – the first, is the weekday edition, and the second is the weekend edition. Now for the specifics:
Dates:
Weekday edition – 7/15/10 (a Thursday) – see the results here
Weekend edition – 9/4/10 (a Saturday)
Objective:
Submit the earliest completion of a five-mile run on the date of the contest. The run must finish after 3:00 AM, and be submitted as your local time (of course). If you run longer than five miles, submit a pretty accurate estimate of when you reached the five-mile point based on your starting time and splits.
Details:
There are two ways to participate. First, you can join the Predawn Runner Challenge on Dailymile. If you participate in this manner, please include your starting time, five-mile time, and resulting completion time in your workout entry that day.
If you aren’t on Dailymile, you can post your entry here in the comments section. Please include the time you started and your five-mile time, with the resulting “completion” time. Please be precise in your entry, as every minute is likely to count.
All entries either her or on Dailymile must be posted by 9PM Eastern Time on the day of the contest. . I will check the results on that evening or the following morning and determine the best (earliest) entry. Results will be announced here and on Dailymile.
Due to the work involved in checking the entries to find the winner, please only sign up if you intend to get out early on Thursday morning and get a go at it. This will make it easier to determine the winner in a timely manner.
Prize:
The winner for each contest will win their choice of mini poster (either The Purist Runner or The Running Manifesto) or the new Runner’s Stein from the CafePress Predawn Runner Store – your choice. Selection of the winner is purely up to the organizer of the competition and not subject to challenge; I will do my best to objectively determine the winner from the many entries we are likely to receive. In the event of a tie, I will randomly select the winner.
And finally, just as a reminder on why to join this competition, check out this post with 20 (now up to 22) reasons to become a predawn runner.
